  1. Presented at the 33rd IEEE PVSC Conference, San Diego, CA, May 11-16, 2008 CREATING GLOBAL AWARENESS FOR ELIMINATING LIGHT POVERTY IN THE WORLD: TO REPLACE HAZARDOUS KEROSENE LAMPS WITH CLEAN AND SAFE SOLAR LAMPS D.T.Barki, Bharat Barki Noble Energy Solar Technolgies Ltd (NEST)

  2. There’s terrible poverty in the world. Food Poverty. Clothes Poverty. Shelter Poverty. There is equally terrible Light poverty in the world! The world will never be better without eliminating the light poverty. The Solar PV technology is here to support create the enlightened society The world of poverty

  3. Light Richness is the Barometer of

  4. World Energy Consumption Vs Kerosene Consumption World Energy Consumption 785 X1013 Energy Reqd By 2 billion people 24X103 (0.0000000008%)

  5. “We will make electricity so cheap that only the rich will burn the candles” Edison’s seemingly good forecast was true enough for the industrialized world, but his statement did not anticipate the plight of 2 billion people - more than the world’s population in his time – who 100 years later still have no access to electricity.

  6. There are millions of homes in the world without electricity And, the people use deadly kerosene Lamps for their basic lighting needs

  7. There’s nothing good about kerosene lamps except their elimination They are expensive They are unhealthy They are inefficient They are dangerous They leave behind more darkness than the light!

  8. BBC coverage of 6th Aug 2001, which showed the pictures of 28 people charred to death in chains in Erwadi (India). This startling and chilling incident happened due to the hurricane kerosene lantern

  9. Look at the stark contrast of these two pictures takenwith kerosene and solar lamps separately with the same reading postures of the children during their study Even if the kerosene lamps are kept almost on the book and the children bowing their head almost over the burning flames of the kerosene lamps, it is difficult for the students to Read the books. With the kind of light these kerosene lamps give, it’s difficult to spot the Book, leave alone the small letters of the book! In contrast the solar lamps give most appropriate light
