  2. The Humungous Harvest Organic Forms in Clay

  3. You will… • Pick the name of a fruit or vegetable out of a box • Your fruit/veg should have signs of human interaction (bite, sliced, partially peeled etc) • You will shape the fruit/veg out of paper, tape, cardboard and foil • Finish surface neatly with ‘papiermache’ • Paint realistically

Why are we doing this? • Another use for paper in art making • Review color wheel and mixing colors • Autumn is the time for harvests/Thanksgiving • Day of the Dead (food offerings to deceased loved ones) • Artists have used food imagery for inspiration for hundreds of years • We all need to eat! • Learn something new about food in our society

  5. Color Wheel • A diagram that organizes the basic colors

  7. Colors that mix to create ALL other colors 1.Red 2. Blue 3. Yellow Primary Colors

  8. Colors made with 2 primary colors • Green (blue+yellow) • Orange (yellow+red) • Violet (blue+red) Secondary Colors

  14. Armature: • The support structure (skeleton) of a sculpture. Often is covered up. • For this project, our armature can be made with: • Newspaper • Tape • Cardboard • Foil

  20. How we’ll begin • You’ll pick a fruit or vegetable randomly from a box. • You can trade with a friend if you both agree! • Begin building the armature out of newspaper and tape. Cardboard will be available for sharp or flat edges (5 classes) • Simple fruits and vegetables need to look INTERACTED with somehow (sliced, bitten etc) • Complex fruits & vegetables include broccoli, artichokes, asparagus (multiple spears only). • Once it’s built, you will papiermache the form so it’s solid and finished looking (3 classes) • Painting! 90% mixed colors from Primary colors (and black & white) (4 classes)

  21. Now: • We will draw out a color wheel to practice color mixing on tomorrow • Turn in your notes at the end of class to the FRONT BOX
