Student ambassadors Students learn best when they feel supported and that they belong (Deeley 2014). They also see higher education as a means to employment (Bryson 2007). Quotes from Ambassadors “I wanted to volunteer at Uni because it would help my CV” “My father died of coronary heart disease as a smoker” “It took me 6 years to get my father to stop smoking, I want to encourage others to do the same” Ambassadors
The frustrations Engaging academics Time poor students Embedding through management support
Take home messages • Find ways to include students in the programs and initiatives on campus. • Take the teaching outside of the classroom and create the student “experience” • Engage academics and general staff in health initiatives on campus and apply this in the classroom
