  4. What Should NT Theology Do? • 1. Help us find the knowledge of God though his revelation. • 2. The revelation is historical and therefore requires attention to historical continuity. • 3. The revelation is multiform, i.e. historical, poetic, prophetic, gospel, etc. • 4. The structure of the revelation is Christ centered.

  5. What is the Goal of NT Covenantal Theology? • The goal of all redemptive history is eschatological. All of history is moving toward the final climax of God’s great re-making of the new heaven and new earth. The goal is in understanding our part and God’s part in this drama.

  6. The Value of NT Theology • The fact is that only when systematic theology is rooted in Biblical theology [OT and NT Theology] does it exemplify its true function and achieve its purpose. • John Murray, Professor of Systematic Theology, Westminster Seminary

  7. Problems in Covenant Theology • 1. Fragmentation among its adherents • 2. Intellectualism • 3. Elite Membership • 4. Lack of Love

  8. Answers to the Problems • 1. Renewed dependency upon the Word of God. • 2. Commitment to the sovereignty of God. • 3. Devotion to the Lordship of Christ. • 4. An awareness of human depravity. • 5. A pursuit of personal godliness. • 6. A love of grace.
