Studies of climate and factors that affect climate change seek to link the existing interactions between the land, oceans and atmosphere. This information is used to improve the representation of these processes in global climate models. The ultimate goal of this research is to optimize the accuracy of global climate models that are used to study climate dynamics, climate change, and the global scale transport of pollutants. A variety of observational, theoretical, and modeling strategies are used to explore the dynamics of weather and climate, towards improved understanding and predictions. Paleoclimate research at Georgia Tech is focused on reconstructing and understanding abrupt climate change and the long term behavior of the tropical ocean-climate system.
