What we’ve learned • We have learned how to use the laser transit which is mapping out the area with Tracey. • We also have learned how to identify what artifacts are. • We learned how to map out the grid for the sites that we had dug.
Research Question • Who lived here? • A: Native Americans • Artifacts; bones, projectile point, knife tip, and flakes. flakes Chert core tools arrowhead
Research Questions That We Asked Before We Dug • Which Native groups lived here? • Answer: We don’t know what native groups lived there.
Questions that were asked and answered • How long did the Native groups lived there? • Answer:10,000 B.C. to 500 B.C • Why did the Native Americans lived in Burtonsville? • Answer: they lived there for food and water and chert for tools.
Research Question • Q. What kind of animals lived here? • A. Deer, bear, fox, birds and fish. Artifacts: cow and pig bone and shells
Research Question • Q. What did the people who lived in the house do for an occupation? • A. They worked in the mill • Artifacts: not much.
Research question • How long did people live in the house? • A. 1800-20th century • Artifact: plastic and pearlware.
Why did people leave They left because the building burnt down. Artifacts: melted glass, burnt materials (coal, charcoal, coal ash, blackened masonry)
