  3. Chp 3-1Latitude and Longitude • The earth is divided into lots of lines called latitude and longitude. • The lines measure distances in degrees. Longitude Latitude

  4. Latitude and Longitude • Latitude lines run side to side. • Has units in North and South direction maximum of 90 degrees North South

  8. Where is 0 degree? • The equator is 0 degree latitude. Equator

  9. Where is 0 degree? • The prime meridian is 0 degrees longitude. This imaginary line runs through several countries.

  10. Great Circles • Any circle that divides the globe into halves. • The equator is the only line of latitude that is a great circle.
