The kids get their Happy Meals and are happy. • The family enjoys the rest of the week at Virginia Beach. They are ready to fly home when a hurricane warning is issued for the entire eastern seaboard. Try and fly out anyway Stay and wait out the storm

Mr. Pook orders the “seafood surprise” plate and later that night, boy was he surprised. Some of the food was not prepared correctly and it gave Mr. Pook food poisoning. next
Oh Well • Mr. Pook spends the rest of the vacation in his hotel room while his family enjoys the area. He missed everything. The End
Wait • It is a good thing that Mr. Pook decided to wait. The storm came when the airplane was suppose to take off. They had to spend a few extra days in the hotel. The kids played in the arcade and swam in the pool while Mr. Pook and his wife got some extra rest. Then, they all flew home safely. The End

West • Mr. Pook always liked the western part of the United States and is looking forward to going back, but where? Rocky Mountains Grand Canyon
Rocky Mountains • Mr. Pook is excited about going to the Rocky Mountains. His wife and children want to fly there, but Mr. Pook wants to save money by driving there.
Drive • Mr. Pook likes to drive and is looking forward to a three day driving trip with the whole family. • About two days into the trip, Mr. Pook hears a strange sound coming from the car. Should he ignore the sound and continue? Should he stop and have it checked out?
Keep on going • Mr. Pook decides to ignore the sound and keep on going. Pretty soon the car stops running completely. When Mr. Pook pops the hood there is smoke pouring out of the engine. Next
Oh Oh! • Mr. Pook calls AAA and they send out a tow truck. The mechanic says that the engine is shot and it will take a week to get the parts to fix it. “If only you would have stopped before the car quit running.” • Mr. Pook and family are stuck in the middle of nowhere for the week and when the car is finally fixed, they decide just to go home and forget about going on vacation. The End
Stop and Check • Mr. Pook decides to stop and have the car checked out. It is a good thing he did! The mechanic said that if he would have continued driving, the motor would’ve blown up. • After a short wait for repairs, Mr. Pook and family continue their journey. Next
Finally There • Mr. Pook and family get to Denver safely and are set to start their trip to the mountains. Where should they go first? A climb up Pike’s Peak, one of the highest points in the U.S., would be thrilling, but rafting down the Colorado river also sounds exciting. Pike’s Peak Rafting down the river
Rafting down the river • Rafting down the mighty Colorado river does sound pretty exciting. Mr. Pook and family find a couple of places that run tours down the river. Mr. Pook wants to take the cheaper one, “All these places are the same anyway, lets save a few bucks and go with the cheap one.” Take the cheaper tour to save some money Spend a little more money to find a better place
Save some money • “This place will be fine, trust me”, Mr. Pook tells his family. As they are traveling down the river some strange things start to happen. “Dad, is there suppose to be water coming in the bottom of the raft?” They try to plug the hole, but water keeps coming in. As they try to paddle to the shore, the oars break into pieces. Next
Rafting problems • The raft then gets struck on a rock. Mr. Pook has to swim everything from the raft to the shore where they are stuck for two days waiting for the rangers to rescue them. The family gets back to Denver, but Mr. Pook is so tied that he just wants to stay in hotel. Next
Spend a little more money • Mr. Pook’s wife insists that they find a quality place, even if it means spending a little bit more money. She asks around and finds a place that has a good safety record. They are having a good time traveling down the river. Up ahead, they see that the river splits, but they don’t know which way to go. Left Right
Left • The left side looks like the better route. It is wider and has less rocks. Mr. Pook and family have a safe and fun ride down the river and enjoy the rest of their vacation in the mountains. The End
Right • The right side looks narrow and has a lot of rocks. “Lets go for it!”, Mr. Pook yells. • Maybe that wasn’t the best choice. Mr. Pook and family are now traveling down rapids full of rocks. Next
Pike’s Peak • A good hike up the mountain is just the right way to start off the vacation. It is a beautiful day for a climb and a lot of other people seem to have the same idea. About half way up, Mr. Pook says that he knows a short cut. Take the short cut Stay on the path
Short Cut • Taking the short cut would save some time and energy, so Mr. Pook and family decide to go for it. The short cut takes them past some of the most beautiful sites they have ever seen. When they join up with the main path, they are hours ahead of everybody else. “We should wait for everybody else to catch up”, Mr. Pook’s wife says. Stop and wait Go on ahead
Stop and wait • It is probably safer to wait and not be alone any further. Besides, this will give the children a chance to rest. They set up a picnic lunch and then take a nap. They awake when the rest of the group reaches them and continue the hike with them. Continue
Go on ahead • “Why should we wait around for everyone else?”, said Mr. Pook. “We can beat everyone else up to the top!” They continue up the mountain when all of a sudden they hear a noise. It is a mountain lion. They drop everything and run. Next
At the bottom • At the bottom they are telling a ranger what happened and the ranger said, “It is too bad you weren’t with a large group. Mountain lions are afraid of large groups.” Mr. Pook and family decide to play it safe for the rest of the trip and stay at a water park resort. They never see anymore mountains. The End
Lets keep going • Mr. Pook and family continue up the mountain. It is a hard trip, but with the help of others, they all make it safe and sound. The view is spectacular! It is the most incredible thing they have ever seen. What a great way to start the vacation. The End
Grand Canyon • What could be better than the Grand Canyon? It is one of the 7 natural wonders of the World! What could possibly go wrong? After an uneventful flight, Mr. Pook and family get settled into their hotel and have to decide how to see the area. Take a guided tour Go out on their own
Guided Tour • Mr. Pook and family decides to let the tour guide take them to all the good places. This turns out to be a great decision. They get to see all the beautiful scenes and never had to worry about driving and crowds. This turned out to be a wonderful vacation. The End
Go out on their own • “Why should we pay someone else to take us around when we can do it ourselves?” Where to start? A walk by the rim or a hike down into the canyon? Walk to the rim Hike down the canyon
Walk to the Rim • By walking to the rim, Mr. Pook and family get to see a breath-taking view of the Grand Canyon. This was a great way to start the vacation. They went on to see many different sites and all had a great time. The End
Walk down the into the Canyon • Mr. Pook decides that it would be a good idea to hike down into the Canyon first. It is early the next morning, and Mr. Pook and family are ready for the hike. They find that walking down the Canyon is fairly easy. They visit the ranger station, look around, and refill their canteens. Rest before going back up Start back up before it gets dark
Rest • Mr. Pook and family decide to take a rest before starting back up. After a peaceful rest, they start the hike. Mr. Pook finds that it is much harder walking up the canyon then down. It is getting dark and they are only about half way back up. Continue up the Canyon Stop, build a fire, look for shelter
Start back up right away • Mr. Pook finds that it is much harder walking up the canyon then down. It is taking a lot longer than expected. They reach the top just before sundown. “It is a good thing that we started back up right away or we might not have made it back before nightfall.” This was a great way to start the vacation. The End
Continue up • “We don’t have enough food or water to last through the night, so we might as well continue going up the Canyon.” Mr. Pook wasn’t expecting to be out at night so he didn’t have a flashlight. The rest of the hike went very slowly. Mr. Pook had to carry a sleeping child most of the way. It was after midnight before they finally reached the top. Mr. Pook was exhausted from the hike and needed a lot of rest. Next
Stop and camp • “It is getting dark and the children are exhausted. We should set up camp and wait until morning.” This sounds like a good choice, but they didn’t have any camping gear with them. Their canteens were almost empty and they only had a small bag of trail mix left to eat. Mr. Pook was able to build a fire, but unfortunately, the rain put it out. Next
Stop and camp • It is a good thing that a ranger came by to help them in the middle of the night. Mr. Pook and family played it safe for the rest of the trip. The End
