  3. Date Event/ Significance 1789 Aug. • National Assembly adopts Declaration of the Rights of Man • Guaranteed these rights: • Liberty • Property • Equal justice • Freedom of speech and religion

  4. Date Event/ Significance 1790 • National Assembly reforms status of church • Peasants opposed reforms because: • Many were conservative Catholics who were offended by attempts to make the church a part of the state.

  5. Date Event/ Significance 1791(Sept) • National Assembly hands power to Legislative Assembly • Political factions from within: • Radicals (LEFT WING) • Want huge change • Moderates (CENTER) • Want some change • Conservatives (RIGHT WING) • Want few changes
