  1. Act Reading test strategies From The Princeton Review’s Englishand Reading Workout for the ACT and Cracking the Code

  2. Personal Oder of Difficulty OR (POOD) Time is your nemesis so consider the level of question difficulty for each passage. Choose the passage that you are most comfortable with first. Read THAT passage then think about NOW, LATER, and LOTD. • Consider whether the question looks easy. Can you answer it NOW? If so do it. • If the question looks difficult, leave it and come back to it LATER. • If the question is impossible, NEVER waste your time struggling for longer than one minute on one question. Instead… • Choose the Letter of the Day or (LOTD) for NEVER questions. Be strategic. Always choose the same answer for LOTD questions.

  3. Process of Elimination or POE • On the English test, you may never find POE questions, but you will likely encounter several on the Reading test. • You may likely not know exactly WHAT you have read, but you will probably know what you have NOT read. Rule out those options first. • Try to narrow your choices to one or two. Guess wisely.

  4. Pacing • Allow about 31/2 minutes to read each passage. • Spend no longer than 5 minutes answering the ten questions at the end of the passage. • Do not move on to the next passage without answering ALL questions from the current passage. • Circle any sticky questions. If time remains at the end, give those questions a second look.
