Patient as focus of a Caring Response • Care providers face conflicting claims • ‘A claim is a request that arises from the expectations people have due to one’s professional role’ • There are other claims • Ask if each claim is from the patient, the employer, or yourself • Patient- (or client-) centered care • Focus on the well-being of the whole person • Patient –centered care is highly individualized • Effective communication is essential for patient centered care and to achieve a caring response College of Health Sciences
