Elder Abuse "Elder Abuse is a single or repeated act, or lack of appropriate action, occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust which causes harm or distress to an older person” (WHO)

Rarely Offered – Why? • Mediation & Dispute resolution • Misunderstanding of referral agency? • Guidelines? • Perception that it doesn’t work (Risky) • If abuse is occurring, what is there to mediate • Prevention Vs Rights (over-emphasis) • Ignoring the right to self determination
