First announcement Lefocastro – Pelion Kissos -Pelion Dear colleagues, The organizing committee is pleased to invite you to the first meeting of the COST action “Maternal interactions with gametes and embryos” which will be held in Volos – Greece, in October 9-11, 2008. The meeting is expected to be the platform for researchers working in the field, to exchange ideas and to build up new co-operations. Besides the interesting scientific programme, the city of Volos is a challenge by itself. The city carries a 35 century heritage. From here (the ancient city of Iolkos) Jason started the Argonautic expedition to Colhis to bring back the golden fleece. The city is topped by mountain Pelion where according to the Greek mythology the centaurs lived; among them the most famous, Chiron who taught the art of medicine to Asclepius (the ancient God of medicine). The modern ARGO Centaurus Chiron and Asclepius Today all these famous guys are very well hidden to the dense oak forests of the mountain and there is no point for someone to look for them. Instead, there are a lot of traditional restaurants along the beach offering delicious seafood accompanied by the typical of the region, tsipouro (a kind of ouzo). If you are not careful enough with tsipouro consumption, you will have strong possibilities to meet and have a serious chat with Chiron, Jason, Hercules, Castor, Oedipus and the other chaps of the expedition. We are convinced that you will enjoy both the excellent scientific programme, as outlined below in this first announcement, and the beautiful city of Volos. Argonauts on board. Krater 420-390 bC
