  3. Educational Telecollaboration Activities That Utilize the Communication Capabilities of the Internet to Facilitate Collaboration Between Students, Classrooms and Professionals from Around the World.

  4. Collaborative and Keypal Projects Collaborative Projects: Projects in Which Classrooms From Around the World Collaborate Via the Internet to Investigate a Question, Problem or Phenomena. Keypal Projects: Projects in Which Students Communicate Electronically With Other Students From Around the World in Much the Same Way As in Traditional Pen Pal Projects.

  5. Finding Collaborative & Keypal Projects • There Are Two Primary Methods: Web Sites and Educational Listservs • Web Sites – There Are Many Organizations That Maintain Large Databases or Lists of Collaborative Projects. These Can Be Searched Using Various Keywords or Browsed by Subject. • Educational Listservs – There Are Listservs Where Various Projects and Partners Can Be Found.

  6. Suggestions for Finding Projects • For Collaborative Projects Use Selection Criteria on Handout 3A to Identify Top Notch Projects. • Once You Identify a Collaborative Project Answer the Questions on Handout 3A. • For Keypal Projects Use Handout 3B to Review Secrets For A Successful Project.

  7. Activity 3 Searching for Telecollaborative Projects Surfing Goal • Find at Least One Collaborative or Keypal Project That You Could Use in Your Classroom. • Bookmark the Project Using Your MURL Account.

  8. INTERNET SAFETY NOTE • Rules Should Be Set Up Before the Project Starts That Outline How and When Students Can Communicate With Others. • You Should Monitor Student Interactions With Their Keypals and Other Students. • Do Not Provide Email Addresses of Partners To Students Unless They Know Not To Contact Them Outside of the Classroom.
