  3. Common Elements of Creation Stories • Supreme being/creator • Sacred animals • People are created • Earth starts as a plain ball, features later • Set timeframe • Male/female counterpart • Dragons/serpents • People have specific role • There is a punisher/ destroyer, and teacher/preserver

  4. Supreme being /creator • This can be depicted as an animal • God, Allah, various other titles • Sometimes non-descript

  5. Sacred animals • Often animals are repeated • Personification • Portrayed in art and culture

  6. People are created • The purpose of most stories are to explain how humans came to be • Can be instantaneously, or drawn out process

  7. Earth • Very creative ways that earth was created • Often same things are addressed such as earth, water, fire, wind

  8. Set time frame • Pay attention to other elements being created • When did it take place? • How long?

  9. Male/Female counterparts • Pay attention to specific roles • Hierarchical relationships • Equality

  10. Dragons/Serpents • Other mythical creatures may be used • Often play a role

  11. People Have Specific Roles • They may have to complete a task • Certain actions may spark change • Body parts may be used

  12. Punisher/Destroyer, Teacher/Preserver • Roles may be either human, animal, or power • Think of moral that should be learned from lesson

  13. Activity • Read the Australian Creation Story and make notes in your chart • Due tomorrow
