McKinley Bear Student Conduct Expectations Students have the responsibility to contribute to this environment and are expected to: Respect school property; share in the responsibility of maintaining school cleanliness. Refrain from having gum, candy, pop, or food unless students have permission from the teacher. Use language that is not offensive to others. Move throughout the building in a safe, quiet, orderly manner. Respond positively to instructions/corrections from all people in authority. Dress appropriately for school activities.
McKinley Bear Campus Expectations Students must be engaged in a positive activity if on campus before or after school hours. Examples of positive activities may include: • Participating in an organized school activity or sport. • Participating as a spectator at a school activity. • Playing basketball or another sport with friends. • Visiting with friends on the picnic tables which have been provided. • Other activities which do not interfere with the safety or rights of others.
Lunchroom Expectations Enter lunchroom and be seated immediately. Talk to the people at your table quietly. Remain until dismissed to the line Return to same table eat, properly return tray. Return to your seat immediately and ask permission to leave table if needed. Supervisor will dismiss you from lunch.
Campus Expectations cont: • The area near the gym doors and locker room stairs must be kept clear so that spectators may enter and exit the gym. Therefore students loitering will be asked to move to the picnic tables or other appropriate place. • Spectators at sporting events are asked to be seated in the appropriate area and remain there for the entire event. Anyone leaving an event will not be allowed to return. • No students may be in the building before 7:50 (except for breakfast) or after 3:00 unless they are under the direct supervision of a staff member.

Student Expectations cont: Violations of Respect: • Not Following Instructions • Not Accepting Feedback • Not Following School Rules • Not Following Classroom Expectations • Pushing/Grabbing/Tripping • Rude or Inappropriate Language or Voice Tone • Name Calling/Teasing/Bullying
Electronic Devices Cell Phones • Electronic devices such as cell phones, IPods, MP3 players, CD players, and hand-held video games are disruptive to classroom learning. Therefore, students are asked to leave such devices at home. • Any devices brought to school must remain off during the school day and should be kept locked in the student’s locker.
The McKinley Way; is to be on time! Tardy 1: 30 minute after school detention that day or isolated lunch the following day. Tardy 2: 30 minute after school detention that day or isolated lunch the following day. The teacher makes a parent phone call home. Tardy 3: 30 minute after school detention that day or isolated lunch the following day. The teacher makes a parent phone call home warning parent that student will earn office referral for next classroom tardy. Tardy 4: Office Referral where the student will earn 2 after school detentions of 30 minutes each. Teacher will make parent contact to set up parent/student meeting to involve administration and teacher. Tardy 5: Office Referral where the student will earn a half day in-school suspension. Administration will make parent contact. Tardy 6: Office Referral where the student will earn an in-school suspension or TAP placement. Administration will make parent contact.
Illegal Items Found in School Students are prohibited from distributing, dispensing, manufacturing, possessing, using, and being under the influence of alcohol, drugs or look-a-like substances; and possessing or using tobacco, tobacco products or look-a-like substances. Weapons or look alike items are not allowed on school grounds or at school activities.
McKinley Bear “Dress for Success” • Wear your pants at your waistline • Cover your tummy and back • Clothing must cover all undergarments and midsection while standing or sitting • Remove all headwear when entering the building • Place bags and coats in your locker during school • Jewelry must be safe and not distracting
Dress Code Cont: • Wear a belt if your pants are too big • Skirts and shorts must hang below the shirt • All clothing must be appropriate for the school environment and not promote negative behaviors or distractions • Reasonable dress is required to maintain a high standard of academic success
Lockers • Each student is assigned one hallway locker on the first day of school and is responsible for keeping that locker clean and in good condition. • Students are not permitted to use unassigned lockers and are strongly discouraged from sharing locker combinations with other students. • Each locker has ample storage space for books and outerwear. • Lockers are not to be shared and are to be kept locked at all times. • Although lockers are assigned to students, they remain the property of the school.
Assembly Behavior McKinley students will act like ladies and gentlemen for all assemblies/performances. The audience will become quiet upon the entrance of the presenter. The audience should listen quietly to the performance. Applause should be limited to clapping in a courteous manner with no whistling or other distracting noises. Students must sit in the section assigned by teacher. Students who misbehave in an assembly may not be allowed to attend subsequent assemblies. Students who are not performing must be accompanied by an adult at all times-a teacher during the day, a parent at night.
