This project examines the hydrology of the Hawaiian Islands, focusing on freshwater resources such as precipitation, streamflow, runoff, soil moisture, and groundwater aquifers. It utilizes GIS to investigate natural factors influencing the distribution of freshwater in Hawaii, including elevation, topography, wind direction, and trade winds. The study visualizes rainfall distribution patterns influenced by topography and wind, highlighting rain shadows and the impact of vegetative cover. Additionally, it explores man-made factors affecting freshwater distribution, such as stream diversions. The project aims to quantify the relationships between topography, wind direction, and freshwater flow, using various data sets including DEM, wind speed, NHD, rainfall rasters, aquifers, and streams.
