INTRODUCTION • Public vocational training institution • Trains more than1000 young people and adults from the age of 14 • EQF 1-4: qualifications in the trade and catering industry as fully skilled chefs, pastry chefs, waiters and shop-assistants in its initial vocational training courses • EQF 5: post secondary, higher vocational education courses (trade, catering and hospitality management) • The institution is an affiliated training department of the University College of Szolnok. The higher vocational education courses are offered as credit-earning foundation modules towards the Bachelor’s Degree Programmes in ‘Tourism and Catering’ & in ‘International Business Administration’ AEHT HEG SEMINAR - ATHLONE 2011
ASPECTS OF EDUCATION & TRAINING • Theoretical vocational education and training at school; • Practical training at school (practice workshops, kitchen, restaurant, cabinets and offices); • External training practice: the students are employed by trade, hotel and catering establishments and companies of Szeged as apprentices and interns under a special training contract. FORMS AND METHODS OF TEACHING • Seminars (interactive, including students presentations, project work, etc.); • Lectures; • Laboratory and workshop practices at school; • Work placements at local, national and international hospitality enterprises. AEHT HEG SEMINAR - ATHLONE 2011
The FoundationModule • The module lays special emphasis on developing students’ communication as well as study and research skills, thus forming important building stones for their further studies. • Subjects: • Market & Corporate Studies; • Business Economics; • Accountancy; • Economic & Employment Law; • Marketing; • Corporate Finances, • Financial Analysis & Fundamentals of Taxation; • Management; • Corporate Strategies; • Marketing Communication; • IT for Business; • Business Communication; • English/French/German for General Business Purposes. The CoreModule • This module aims to teach students tourism and catering management issues from an international perspective. • Core Subjects: • Business Administration, • Gastronomy Studies, • Restaurant, Banqueting & Event Marketing, • Restaurant, Banqueting & Event Management, • System of Tourism, • Resources in Tourism, • Tourism Boards & Organisations, • Tourism Marketing, etc. AEHT HEG SEMINAR - ATHLONE 2011

DIPLOMA THESIS • Content and format: centrally standardised and prescribed by the National Institute for Vocational and Adult Education. • Each year there is an official list of the thesis topics. • The thesis has to prove the student’s practical professional skills and theoretical knowledge as well. • It has to be based on the student’s thorough studying of the special literature of the given topic and the student’s practical experience. • It has to contain the student’s individual professional opinion and points of view. • Length: 30-60 pages AEHT HEG SEMINAR - ATHLONE 2011
FINAL EXAMINATIONS • The final examination is a centralised, standardised national assessment developed by the National Institute for Vocational and Adult Education, andadministeredattheschool. • Module-based examinations with written, oral and practical modules, covering all subjects. • In their final examination the students have to present and defend their thesis in front of the expert members of the Examination Board (7-10 experts). • They get questions in connection with their thesis from the opponent expert and their theme leader. • A B2/C1 level foreign language examination for special purposes is part of the final examination, with a correspondence, mediating and negotiating module. INTERNATIONAL NETWORKING FOR EXCHANGING AND ENHANCING GOOD VET PRACTICES • Coordinating an international partnership project (2010-2012) on eco-conscious & integrative vocational education at EQF 1-5 (HU, SE, UK) • Lead partner in a HU-RO cross-border cooperation with RO06 ‘Valeriu Braniste’ • Participating in AEHT events and activities (HEG, conferences, competitions) AEHT HEG SEMINAR - ATHLONE 2011
