Anglo Saxon’s Burial Tombs • The Anglo Saxon people buried their things in their tomb with them. This provided historians with artifacts that allowed them to determine the jobs of the different Anglo Saxons. In men’s graves there would often be spears and knives which would show that those men were hunters.
Men's Jobs • Freemen • Owned slaves and land • Richer freemen worked and helped king • Slaves • Didn’t own anything • Only owned by freemen
Men’s Jobs • Hunting • Fighting • Farming • Blacksmith • Bronze Working • Viking Sailor • Very risky!
Men’s Jobs • Fishing • Selling at markets • Charcoal making • Leather working • Butcher
Example of Men’s Job: Viking Sailor or Warrior • Only men • Very difficult Job • Conditions such as sanitation on ship bad and the North Sea was rough • Often led to many dying because of conditions, battles, and drowning
Women’s Jobs • Weaving • Cooking • Spinning • Basket making • Some hunting
Religious Anglo Saxon Job: Monk • Only men could be monks • Devoted their lives to God never got married • Lived very modest live • Was not allowed to have any furniture in the home • Did a variety of Jobs within the monastery • ploughing, farming, building, copying manuscripts, cooking and cleaning
