  1. Trains are always subject to a wide range of conditions like extreme temperature, extreme pressure, abrasion, moisture, and much more. They have to travel through allkindsofenvironmentalconditionsandweatherallroundtheyear.Travellingfrom one city to another or one state to another, there are variations in temperatures, atmosphericpressures, andotherenvironmentalconditions;andtheyhavetofaceall of that. This is why all the parts used in trains, the body, the engine, and everything else need to be such that they can handle all these variations. The connection technologyfortraincontrolmodulesarealsosubjecttotheseconditions.Toaidallof this effectively, HARTING has developed a unique full metal housing made of die-cast zinc. These housings are used with approved and standard F and MH crimp connectors in accordance with the DIN 41 612standard, which are fastened to the housing without the use of any screws. The particular design of the housing safely protects it against electromagnetic influences. This guarantees an electric connection to the cable shielding, thus providing uninterrupted homogenous shielding of the housing, and assurance of absolute signal integrity in train controlunits. Furthermore, the housing is required to be easy to mount, which is why all the fixing screwsforthehousingassemblyareonthesideofthehousing;whichmeansthatthe housing doesn’t have to be turned over during assembling. Also, the captive screws thatareresponsibleforfittingtheconnectortogetherbeforethefinalassemblyofthe housing are already fastened to the housing. Moreover, the cable can be fixed in the housing with a standard cable fastener. All of this provides for a simple and cost-effective assembly. Thus, you can gain benefits of rugged housing, easy assembly, and electromagnetic compatibility protection with this housing from HARTING. You can get these DIN 41 612 connectors and many others for all kinds of applications at Alltronix, the leading HARTING distributor in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, andHyderabad. • Along with the above DIN standard, it is also very important that all railway components are tested as per IEC61373 in India. The IEC61373 specifies the requirements for testing products intended for use on railway vehicles that are subjected o vibrations and shock. These tests prove the capability of the equipment towithstandsuchenvironmentalconditionsforadurationthatstimulatestheservice conditions seen throughout their expected lifespan. This testing can be achieved in a number of ways like– • Amplification, where amplitudes are increased and the time base isdecreased • Decimation, where time slices of the historical data are removed when amplitudes are below a specified thresholdvalue • Time compression, where amplitude history is retained and time base is decreased Equipment tested at levels that are lower than this standard cannot be certified. The test values quoted in this standard have been divided into three basiccategories, • depending upon the equipment’s location within the vehicle. These include body mounted components, bogie mounted components, and axle mountedcomponents. • Follow us on –Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Pinterest
