  2. Today: • 2 short exercises on different Textures • 3 quick compositions • 1 long (50 minutes) drawing session

  3. Warm Up Exercises • Time:5minutes • Loosen up your arms and wrists • You will use your pencils, charcoals, color chalks, crayons, etc. • Try exploring the different characters of each of your drawing tools Source: http://www.watercolorpainting.com/drawing_materials_chalks.htm

  5. Texture 1: Rough • Time: 15 minutes • Consider the character of the material: • Diffuse even lighting • Unfocused highlights • Granular fine surfaces • Some rough fabric materials • Smoother leather materials • Generally not reflective

  6. Texture 2: Reflective Material • Time: 15 minutes • Consider the character of the material: • Rapid high contrast changes • Sharp changes in direction • Bright focused highlights

  7. Quick SketchesDrawing Session • Time:3 X 5minutes • Try three compositions • Outline quickly. • Start by shading in lightly with the side of your conte or chalk. • Optional: add texture by hatching.

  8. Extended Drawing Session • Time: 50 minutes • Eraser Tip: • Your erasers can be another drawing tool: 1) The kneaded eraser can be used to pick up surface material (pencil, charcoal, etc.), and 2) the sharp edges of vinyl eraser can be used to draw sharp highlights.
