SERMONBY REV. JOHN STANLEY
TOPIC THE ONLY WAY OF TRUE PROSPERITY AND VICTORY.
TEXT 2Tim. 2:15 Joshua 1:8
2 Tim. 2:15. “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be shamed, and who correctly handlings the word of truth. NIV
Joshua 1:8 Do not let this book of the law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you be prosperous and successful. NIV
INTRODUCTION Last time that I preach here, I told us from scripture that his divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who has called us into his own glory
and goodness. And I remember telling us that knowledge is power and lack of knowledge means that God will reject us because we do not have knowledge. Today by the grace of God we shall be looking at the only way to true prosperity and victory which depends on comes only
through our total dependence or reliance on God’s word. The charge on Joshua and Timothy can never be down played because the command was an imperative command, which is serious. We shall be looking at reasons why and how we too can follow even
REASONS WHY AND HOW WE TOO CAN FOLLOW EVEN IN THE FOOT-STEPS OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST.
Why was Timothy a young person charged with this responsibility of nightly handling the word of truth? • 2 TIMOTHY 4:3: In order not to develop itching ears which leads astray. • 2 TIMOTHY 4;2: To rebuke, to reprove and to exhort with complete patience • 2 TIMOTHY 3: To stand firm because in the last days Godlessness will abound
HOW CAN A CHRISTIAN OVERCOME SHAME AND BECOME PROSPEROUS? • 2 TIMOTHY 2:15: By rightly handling the word of truth • JOSHUA 1:8A: by simply not allowing the word of God to depart from his mouth • JOSHUA 1:8B: By meditating and being doers of the word of God James 1:22 day and night.
OUR CHIEF EXAMPLE TO FOLLOW (JESUS CHRIST) • MATHEW 4:1-11.
CONCLUSION Our chief example to follow. (Jesus Christ) will not abandon his trust in God to provide a way out: Jesus replied to each of Satan’s temptations with reference to scripture to each of
Satan’s temptations with reference to Scriptures. “The Sword of the Spirit” in God’s word (Eph. 6:17) and Jesus relied on Scripture for victory in his spiritual struggle. TAKE THE HELMET OF SALVATION AND THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, WHICH IS THE WORD OF GOD. NIV
GO IN PEACE AND SERVE THE LORD.
