A Strengthened Partnership How do we strengthen the partnership to accelerate the achievement of our shared objectives?
Discussion Points: 1 Change in behaviour • Information exchange is a starting point. We must scale-up advocacy efforts within our institutions. • What advocacy activities could be undertaken as a group or by individual institutions to promote statistical development? • Who would be the target audience?
Discussion Points: 2 Broader notion of partnership: • our partners should also include economists, project/programme managers, and donors not actively involved in the statistical development agenda. Within the country, this partnership includes statistical units in line ministries, universities, research centres, the media, NGOs, and civil society. • How do we identify and reach out to these persons/agencies in order to broaden and deepen our work?
Discussion Points: 3 • Common approach and strategy: • Sharing of initiatives could reduce costs and ensure harmonisation. The Light Reporting Exercise task team is another example. • What other efforts could be undertaken to collaborate further on a common approach and strategy? • How can we develop a shared international strategy for statistical development in partner countries?
Light Reporting Exercise (LRE) PARIS21 produced this three-volume report on support from technical and financial partners to statistical capacity building in Sub-Saharan Africa. It outlines who is doing what and where. Volume III is a directory of all these partners. The Volume I executive summary and the questionnaire used to collect information have been translated into Arabic. Would a similar reporting mechanism for the Arab region be of use?
