  3. What is a Project? • A project is a temporary endeavor, having a defined beginning and end, undertaken to meet unique goals and objectives. • Temporary – Definitive beginning and end • Unique – New undertaking, unfamiliar ground Unique Temporary Characteristics of Projects

Examples of projects : • Construction of a house • Construction of a highway, dam, etc. • Performing a marriage • Installing a machinery • Maintenance of equipment • Commissioning of a factory • Conducting national elections • Research on developing a new technology • launching a new weapon system • Developing a software

  5. Characteristics of a Project: Temporary: Projects are temporary in nature. Every project has a beginning and end. The word ‘temporary’ here may refer to an hour, a day or a year. Definite Beginning and Completion: Project is said to be completed when the project’s objectives have been achieved. Definite Objective/Scope and Unique: All the projects have their own defined scopes/objectives for which they are carried out. Every Project is undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result. Defined Time and Resources: As the projects have definite beginning and end, they are to be carried out within the time and resources. Multiple Talents: As projects involve many interrelated tasks done by many specialists, the involvement of people from several departments is very much essential. Thus, the use of multiple talents from various departments becomes the key for successful project management.

  6. Project Management: Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet the project requirements. Project Manager: A project manager is the person responsible for accomplishing the project objectives.

Meaning of Project Report: A Project Report is a document which provides details on the overall picture of the proposed business.  It consists of information on economic, technical, financial, managerial and production aspects. It enables the entrepreneur to know the inputs and helps him to obtain loans from banks or financial Institutions.
