5. BLACKBOARD CONNECT PURPOSE: PLEASE NOTE: Parents are strongly encouraged to have at least one email address set as a preference. Email is the primary communication method for campus and District communications, and not all messages can be abbreviated into a phone call or text. • Blackboard Connect is used to send emergency, attendance and general notifications from your child’s campus and Fort Bend ISD, as well as attendance updates and information about negative lunch balances. 7. Schoology It offers teachers and students multiple avenues for collaboration, communication, assessment, submitting assignments and discussion boards.  Parent access allows for a "view only" approach to the course content.   Parents will be able to view any assignments, discussions, completed assessments, calendar updates, or content that is shared by their child's teachers.  Schoology also enhances teacher and parent communication by allowing direct contact (or communication) through the platform. Though teachers may take some grades in Schoology through submitted assignments or assessments, Skyward will still be the official record for grades.

Discovery Class Will focus on 4 areas: • Study Skills and Organization - use of AVID binder system, interactive notebooks, note taking, use of student planner and developing schedules for studying. • Character development and habits necessary for success using the Covey book, 7 Habits for Highly Effective Teens. Restorative Circles and Self- Reflection will be utilized to examine each of the habits.

10. Discovery Class Will focus on 4 areas: 3. Use of technology, especially Naviance, the My Road feature with College Board, and exposure to the finer tools in Schoology. Proper netiquette, professional student communication and keyboarding tips be taught. • Student learning will center on communication. This will occur with the Oracy School 21 framework where students are taught how to positively communicate with one another in academic and social group settings. (Google OracySchool 21 framework).

LONGHORN TIME • Formerly known as ‘Advisory’ • Will have designated days for specific activities • Small Group Interventions will be completed through LHT as well. • The expectation is that students are actively taking part in LHT activities like reading, organizing binder, completing brain puzzles, participating in circle discussions and completing homework.
