Siena K – 8 School • The third K – 8 school in the district • Galileo K – 8 • Christine Donnell K – 8
The Building Similar in design to most recent elementary schools Approximately 75,000 square feet Widened halls to allow for individualized learning space Increased security with more limited public access (no individual classroom doors; office staff better able to monitor people entering the building)
The 6 - 8 Program Provides a different choice for students during middle school -Smaller school environment -One less transition during school years -More systematic planning for high school transition -Limited sports (Cross country, basketball, and volleyball, with a probable K – 8 “league”)
The Siena K – 8 Program • Elementary school will be a traditional neighborhood school, with a regular attendance boundary • No area of academic emphasis; however one additional middle school level Spanish • Students within the regular attendance are will have first priority to attend Siena in grades 6 – 8 • Students who prefer to attend Lake Hazel Middle School may do so (no transfer request required unless during the school year; transportation will be provided) • Students in the Lake Hazel Middle School attendance are will have the second priority to attend in grades 6 – 8 (transportation provided) • Students living outside of the Lake Hazel Middle School attendance area have the third priority to attend (no transportation provided) • If there are more students than seats available, then students will be selected by lottery.
