Pin Mill, Shotley Peninsular, nr Ipswich Suffolk I was delighted to see in 2004 on my first visit to Pin Mill since 1964 that it had hardly changed at all in the 40 years that had passed. Thanks to enlightened planning, the same could be pretty much said of the whole of the Shotley Peninsular, especially the riverbanks. And so the area can be enjoyed for its natural beauty as it has been for centuries. It was this indeed that drew the Berners family to construct their magnificent house in 1776. The Butt & Oyster was naturally the preferred pub for those boys daring enough to risk a visit ........ these days, we can enjoy it without fear of being spotted by a master, several of whom lived in Chelmondiston. Of the following photos, those of rotting hulks were taken by someone else whose name I either never knew or have forgotten, for which I apologize. Chris Snuggs – October 2013
