  3. America being “pushed” into War • After the Lusitania, Germany had agreed to prevent unrestricted war on the seas • Broke promise and upset President Wilson, 1917 • Wilson being forced to revise American neutrality • People of America had cultural ties to the war, and wanted to get involved

Zimmerman Note • 1917, intercepted message lead to American involvement in WWI • From German foreign minister, Zimmerman to German ambassador in Mexico • Message promised German aid to help Mexico take back lost territory in Americans if Mexico lends a helping hand in WWI against Allies • British intercepted it and showed it to American government officials. • Provoked anti- German feeling in America
