Main function • This system includes various organs that work together to regulate body functions
2 main parts • Endocrine Glands – group of cells that secrete hormones directly into the bloodstream • Hormones – chemical substances that help regulate many of your body’s functions.
The Master Gland: The Pituitary Gland! • This gland controls just about everything in the body! • Made up of 3 sections (lobes) • Looks like this!
1. Anterior Lobe • Anterior means front • Produces the following hormones: • Growth hormone – stimulates body growth and development
2. Intermediate Lobe • Intermediate means middle • Produces: • Melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH) – controls the color of your skin!
3. Posterior Lobe • Posterior means rear • Produces: • Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH) – controls balance of water in the body!
Now, how does the body deal with stress and emergencies? Answer: The Adrenal Glands!
