What are Faculty-Led Short Term Programs? • Academic programs initiated and carried out by CUA faculty with support from the School and assistance from the Center for Global Education.  • Nationwide, faculty-led study courses abroad are increasing in number, a response to their popularity with students unable to leave home for a semester or year abroad (finances, work). • The courses are typically offered in the summer. Course length and credit load varies, although most courses are designed to spend 2 to 3 weeks abroad and carry 3 or 6 credit hours.

  3. Process • Faculty should discuss their interest with Dean (and Department Chair if relevant) to ensure School support • The faculty should contact the Center for Global Education to review the program proposal process and timeline (forms available on CGE website) • The overseas course proposal form requires a short program description as well as approval signatures from Dean/Chair • The program proposal process should begin early (typically a year prior) to ensure adequate time for planning and program promotion • The academic department/school is responsible for the academic component while the Center for Global Education is responsible for t he administration and budgeting. Program promotion is jointly done by School & CGE.

Compensation • The Center for Global Education covers the faculty’s program-related overseas expenses as well as a teaching stipend • Faculty program-related overseas expenses: $1000 to $3000, depending on location, length and cost of the program. This allowance includes international airfare, in-country transportation, program accommodations, program-related meals and excursions. Meals & incidentals of $71/per day included. • The teaching stipend follows the Summer Sessions formula whereby the faculty receives 1/12th of their annual salary plus benefits for a 3 credit course (double for 6 credit course).
