These two groups soon organized to call for the independence of India
4. During WWI Indians supported the British war effort in hopes of gaining their freedom
The British did not give India freedom, instead the Rowlatt Act was passed that gave the authority to arrest Indians without trial and prison for up to two years
5. Amristar In the province of Punjab Indians met to protest against the British in the Spring of 1919.
The British opened fire on the protestors and killed over 400 people
This caused all of India to unite agaisnt the British
