Honors: Literature Circles • Packets: read through each role and expectations • Arrange first meeting time: • 6th: Thursday August 22 • 7th: Friday August 23 • Time length: 20 minutes • Must have reading goal set for discussion • Participation is KEY • Must be prepared • 10 minutes to discuss first round roles and what chapters

Activity 1.8: Page 26 in SpringboardGetting Cut: Coming of Age the Hard Way • What does the title “Cut” make you think about? • What do you predict this text will be about? • Use graphic organizer on page 26 to fill in information as we read each vignette Vocab: Vignette A short descriptive literary text

Vignette 4 & 5 • On your own, read the last two vignettes and fill in the information in the graphic organizer on page 26. • What do we notice about each of these speakers? • How does the voice differ in each vignette? Think of our terms. • Which vignette uses similes and metaphors as imagery?

  8. Homework: Page 32 • Writing Prompt: Write a paragraph explaining how the voice of one of the speakers helps to shape the reader’s response (how are you able to understand what the speaker is saying through the voice). • Create questions that Bob Green may have asked. • Follow up questions you would like to ask. • Due next class period.
