  5. The Battle Environment • The FLESH(Rom. 8:8;; Mt 15:10-20; Mk 7:20-23) • An Internal Enemy (Jam. 4:1-3) • A part of your very person • Seeks to control and destroy you through desires • The WORLD (Jam. 3:15; Eph. 2:1-3) • An External Enemy • Philosophy of the Age which we live (Rom. 12:1) • Organized structure of world systems (Jam. 4:4-7) • The ENEMY (Jam. 4:7-10; Eph. 6:10-18; 1 Pet. 5:6-9) • The Infernal Enemy • Seeks to Steal, Kill, and Destroy • Submit to God (focus on relationship) • Resist the Devil and He will flee from you! • REQUIRED FOR ALL BELIEVERS!!!

  6. Temptation of Jesus – Luke 4 • The Flesh – “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread” (v.3,4) • The World – “To you I will give all this authority and their glory…If you then, will worship me…”(v. 5-8) • The Enemy – “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here…” (v. 9-13)

  7. The Flesh • Body • Experience life through 5 senses • Needs basic needs to survive • Soul – Personality • Mind (think, learn, reason, understand) • Will (decide, act, make decisions) • Emotions (feelings, often our focus) • Much of the world appeals to our emotions • Spirit • God made us “spiritual beings” • Adam and Eve SINNED • “You will die” – spiritual communion with God • John 3:6

  8. Works of the Flesh • Fruits of Fleshly Nature (Gal. 5:19-21; Eph. 5:19-21) • “Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming. You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds.” – Colossians 3:5-9

  9. The World System • What Human Nature wants: • Sports - Fashion • Education - Religion • Entertainment - Politics • Popularity - Wealth (culture) • What the Enemy wants: John 10:10 • Steal (Stealing Eternal Value) • Kill (Hopeless feelings or Suicide) • Destroy (Separate relationships)

  10. Evil World Philosophies • If it feels good – Then do it (Pride) • If you want it – Take it (Pride) • Live for today (Pride) • Live for yourself (Pride) • Don’t forgive (Pride) • There is no God, therefore sin often (Pride) • Love only those who love you (Pride) • Never admit your wrong (Pride) • Blame others for your mistakes (Pride) • Live your life all based on your feelings (Pride)

  11. The (Your) Enemy • Has several “schemes” that he works against all human kind – (Eph. 6:10) • Un – Believers • Keep them lost in sin and not accepting Jesus as their Savior and Lord. (2 Cor. 4:4) • Believers • Detour them away from living out God’s Will for their lives. • Promote lies, deception, accusation, hopelessness, etc. to draw us away from God. • Try to emphasize fleshly works rather than spiritual works.

  12. Enemy Misconceptions • The enemy is more powerful than me – WRONG • If I talk about the Enemy is gains more Power – WRONG • I should leave him alone and he will leave me alone – WRONG • I am only victorious when I feel it – WRONG • I must pray the right prayer – WRONG • Satan always appears as a red devil – WRONG • Satan should be more afraid of me that I am of Him - RIGHT

  13. Enemies Primary Weapons • Fear – (1 Peter 5:8) • The Enemies fear is a de-motivator • God commands us to “Fear Not” (Isa. 41:10) • If I am afraid it shows my lack of Faith (Lk. 8:22-25) • Intimidation – (Matt. 10:28) • To cause “believers” not to stand on truth • To cause us to be fearful • To cause us to loose our focus!

  14. Very, Very Sneaky • Covert (Hidden) – • Works in the US and around the world • My problem is… my spouse, business, money, kids, government, or myself. • We do not RESIST what we cannot see!!! • Overt (Open) – • Works in animistic cultures (India, Africa…) to produce fear • Curses, spells, occultic practices • God has MORE power than the enemy!!!

  15. Overcoming – The Flesh • Absolute – Truth that stands alone (always true) • We are to be Heavenly minded (Col. 3:1) • We are dead at the Cross (Col. 3:3) • Power of Sin to control • Penalty of Sin to condemn • Put to Death our earthly nature (Col. 3:4) • Walk of honesty (my flesh is evil) • Walk of Death (death of Christ sets me free) • Walk of Holy Spirit (surrendered to God)

  16. Overcoming – The World • Be separate from the world’s system (Rom.12:1; 1 John 2:1,15-16) • Do NOT love the WORLD or ANYTHING in the WORLD… • This requires STANDING ALONE… (i.e. Daniel) • Life: • GOD • PEOPLE • THINGS • “Seek FIRST HIS KINGDOM and HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS and ALL THESE THINGS will be added unto you.” ( Matt. 6:33)

  17. Overcoming – The Enemy • Way to RESIST the Enemy: • God gives GRACE to the Humble (Jam. 4:6) • Asking God for HELP • Submit yourself therefore to God (Jam. 4:7) • Everything in your life is under the control of God • Resist the Devil (Jam. 4:7) • “Satan (enemy), I am command you to leave me in the Name and Authority of Jesus Christ” • Always apply a verse as your grounds of saying NO

  18. Home Work • Take your thoughts Captive this week! • Ask God for other truths you can apply to your life this week (ie.
