Upgrade plan for the City of Pataskala's Water Reclamation Facility in 2019 includes improvements to oxidation ditch systems and infrastructure. Upgrades cover jet aeration systems, crane & hoist systems, hydraulic improvements, clarifier splitter box with weir gates, chemical feed system, piping and valves, site work and demolition, and installation of VFD technology for enhanced pump control. The enhancements aim to improve aeration, flow distribution, chemical management, and overall efficiency of the treatment process. The upgrades ensure compliance with stringent standards and future growth needs.

WRF Upgrades City of Pataskala 2019
Oxidation Ditch Equipment (Jet Aeration) $335,625 • Removal of large portion of existing aeration discs • Possible retention of two small aeration discs as a backup system • Two submersible pumps mounted on rails • Push liquid around ditch for mixing while pulling air into ditch for aeration • This system ensures proper mixing and aeration regardless of the level in the oxidation ditch • Includes a spare pump for backup • Allows for control of the amount of air introduced to each of the three zones in the oxidation ditch • Operators able to regulate DO levels properly, increasing the effectiveness of the biological treatment process
Crane & Hoist System for Jet Aeration Pumps $20,000 • Simply a fixed system to allow for the removal/installation of submersible pumps
Ditch Hydraulic Improvements $10,000 • Additional inlet point from the center ring to the center island of the oxidation ditch • Removal of section of concrete wall to improve flow out of oxidation ditch • Currently, the flow out of the Oxidation Ditch is not distributed evenly to the two clarifiers. This causes more sludge to go to our south clarifier and less to the north
Clarifier Splitter Box & Weir Gates $100,000 • Removal of existing weir gates in center island of oxidation ditch • Flow control to clarifiers would be achieved using the new clarifier splitter box • Splitter box will contain three gates: one to each clarifier and a third for a future clarifier allowing for future growth • Underground piping to redirect flow from oxidation ditch through the splitter box and to the clarifiers
Chemical Feed System and Building$40,000 • 10’ x 10’ metal building to house the chemical feed system • Short driveway extension to building for bulk chemical delivery • Double wall holding tank with 1000 gallon capacity • Day tank, pump and scale for chemical use tracking • This system is meant to be a backup system should we be unable to meet phosphorous removal requirements biologically
Piping, Valve, etc.$75,000 • Underground plumbing to get chemical feed system into the oxidation ditch • Increase RAS discharge pipes in size from 4” to 6”, headers from 6” to 8” • This reduction in head will result in nearly double the capacity, allowing us to meet the industry “Ten State Standard” recommendations • This will reduce the frequency and runtime of the RAS pumps • They currently run an average of 18 hours each every day
Site Work and Demolition$40,000 • Excavation • Removal of existing processes • General construction
Alternates- Variable Frequency Drives (VFD’s)$120,000 • VFD’s provide a range of control on the pump speed and therefore the pump flows • Prevent the sudden slam on, slam off of the pumps • Regulate flows into the plant for a more consistent level throughout the day • Five VFD’s for the pumps at Creek Road and Eastside lift stations • All flow to the WRF comes from these two lift stations • Two VFD’s for the two RAS pumps at the WRF • Allows for increased control of returning activated sludge to the oxidation ditch
