  2. History • In the middle of the 19th century canoe and kayak races were first held in the Olympics. There are two types of Canoeing races. • It become official that it was an Olympic sport in 1936 • For this Canoe race it is called canoe sprint and for this race there is head-to-head races over water.

  3. athletes • Overall for this sport in the Olympics there is a total of 246. There is 158 men and 88 women. • Each country has a limit for 18 athletes, twelve men and six women.

  4. Where they race • The lake they are going to be racing on is a lake at Eton Dorney. The lake is 2,200m long with nine lanes. • Only eight lanes will be used unless there is a tie and another boat needs to go into the current round. • The Athletes that are involved race from distances around 200m to 1,000m The lake at Eton Dorney

  5. The canoe sprint is on still water. • Athletes can either pick to do the sprint by themselves, men, (men's C1), or in pairs ( men's C2). The women’s are the same thing but with women’s in front that C1 or C2.

  6. In an event with ten boats they start with two heats( rounds). The winner of from one of the heats goes to the finals, and the rest going onto the semi-final. • Then from that the best six boats from the semi-final race they go onto the finals race.
