Who is I/ACT? • In 2006 the Troy Chamber of Commerce, under the leadership of Michele Hodges, initiated a study group, as a response to the Maple Road Studies, and named Linda Shears it’s President. • The group established a need for an Arts Council of Troy. • In 2007 the Image and Arts Council of Troyemerged with the acronym I/ACT

  8. I/ACT • Mission is to Enhance Troy’s Image through Arts, Culture and Urban Design

  9. I/ACT • Vision is to : • Act as a creative link among Troy’s art and cultural organizations, artists, schools, community and businesses • Preserve, promote, sponsor and develop the Arts in Troy through grants • Advance the knowledge and appreciation of visual and performing arts • Promote general public interest in the arts and cultural activities in exhibits, seminars and public conferences

  10. ACOMPLISHMENTS

  11. MURAL • Ford and Earl Assoc. sponsors an artist studio on their premises. Members of I/ACT can and are painting there free of rent. • A mural, giving voice to speech impaired children, was recently painted on its premises and it is displayed at the Troy Public Library. The mural, featured in the press, was designed by James Homer Brown and painted by Diana Jellinek, Annie Lloyd, Linda Shears and J. H. Brown, all members of I/ACT.

PUBLIC LECTURES • With Troy Public Library Cultural Arts, I/ACT is currently running a Brown Bag Lectures Program - Urbanism and Public Art in Troy • March 14 - Ron Hynd, Landscape Analyst, Troy Parks & Recreation Public Art in Troy followed by Jeff Biegler, Superintendent, Parks & Recreation, Pathways through Troy • April 18 – John Tagle, AIA, Architect JTAI Good Design is Good Business • May 16 – Mark F. Miller, AICP/PCP, City of Troy Planning Director Civic Art as the Wise Sage of Big Beaver Road • More to come in the fall

  17. THE KMART DOORS PROJECT

  18. The Kmart Headquarters building will be torn down in June to make way for the new Pavilions of Troy. As a way to commemorate this historic building, the interior steel doors will be saved so that they can be turned into works of art.  The doors can be bent, re-shaped, painted or cut into pieces and made into jewelry or fabricated into sculptures.   The final works will be auctioned at a special fund raising event (artist will receive a portion of the proceeds).

Artists from across the metro area will be participating including members of the BBAC and the Detroit Artists Market.  This should prove to be a very exciting event!This project is being done with the Troy Coalition and the Troy Historical Society • For more information e-mail me at: linda@linda shears.com

  20. The Chelsea Center for the Arts had a similar "Doors" project in 2006. Diana Jellinek, an I/ACT founding member, participated with Chelsea Fashion Opens Doors

I/ACT on TV • Charlene and James Homer Brown completed the 10 Week TV Production Certification course offered through Community Media Network  (cmntv.org) in order to promote I/ACT and the Arts in Troy. • Certification permits use of the organization’s professional video production equipment and TV studio for production of non-commercial  programming for public access cable TV. • Shows are broadcast on Comcast and WOW with access to 140,000 homes in Oakland County.  The  Troy Library Brown Bag –Urbanism and Public Art- lectures series have already been filmed for re-broadcast on CMN. • Goal is to produce art documentaries about  local artists, as well as educational and informative TV content about the Troy arts and culture scene.
