  3. The Lessons of Hardship “ . . . for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12.11

Two Features of Paul’s Speech 1) In the past, he [God] let all nations go their own way – alluding to progressive unfolding of divine redemption. v.16 2) He had shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops – Paul’s demonstration of the interest and goodness of God is drawn from nature. v.17

  5. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship . . . 2 Tim. 4.5

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 2 Corinthians 1.3-5

  11. Gaining from Hardship I am greatly encouraged; in all our troubles my joy knows no bounds. 2 Corinthians 7.5

Gain a new sense of value If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. 1 Corinthians 13.3 Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses . . . having nothing, and yet possessing everything. 2 Corinthians 6.4 & 10

  14. Gain a fresh perspective Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4.16-18
