Initiative & Timeline Mimosas & Appletinis CTO of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL), the program directors of the Writing program and the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Programs were kicking back and shooting the breeze and decided that our students can benefit from a powerful communication and collaborative platform that would allow them to work with each other and to more effectively develop their writing portfolios. They thought: docs, spreadsheets, calendaring, chat, googols of email space! CTO TEL thought: googols of email, googols of email, where can I find all those things? She contacts Google in January ‘07 Google presents at USC, February ‘07 CIO and CTO TEL present to the university president and board of trustees in June ‘07 Two pilot projects were initiated: The USC Gould school of law The Viterbi school of engineering Pilots deemed success, go into production Fall Semester ‘07 Central IT tasked to bring service to all students in Spring ‘08 No current plans to change Faculty and Staff email service

Technical timeline Central IT provides a document of questions to answer, in order to build a requirements doc - May ‘07 A requirements document is written - August ‘07 A senior stakeholder meeting is held to discuss requirements - October ‘07 Central IT assigns a PM, assembles team, starts development Requirements continue changing until January 15, ‘08 Tweaks in various aspects ot fht eapplications application Add email migration (from USC to Google) “Google Apps @ USC” launches on January 16, ‘08 Over 9,000 have opted in, out of a potential 37,000 Account lifecycle & governance issues continue to linger on Technical roadblocks (Google API) Governance issues - handover to Alumni affairs Phase 2 requirement Existing email migration Account lifecycle issues (Alumni, etc) Employees
