  1. The Temptation of JesusBible Passages: Mtt.4:1-11, Mk 1:12-13, Lk 4:1-13The Meaning of Temptation:- Temptation means persuasion or forcing someone to do something bad or evil.For instance, a student may be tempted to disobey the school rules and regulations. Note:- It is not evil to be tempted but to succumb to it.

  2. Comparing the Synoptics Account of Jesus’ Temptation. • Matthew’s Account:- • The Temptation took place after Jesus was baptised. • Immediately after the Temptation, angels came to minister to Jesus. • The sequence of the temptation was (i)from changing stone to bread; then followed by (ii)Jumping from the pinnacle of the Temple and the last was (iii)to bow down to the devil.

  3. Mark’s Account:- • The Temptation took after the baptism of Jesus • Luke’s Account:- • The Temptation took after the baptism of Jesus • After the Temptation, the devil left Jesus for a while • The order of sequence is (i)stone – (ii)mountain – and (iii)pinnacle (varied in Mtt.’s 2nd & 3rd)

  4. The Significance of the Temptation:- • …from stone to bread… was aimed at making Jesus to loose focus from spiritual to physical • …jumping down from the pinnacle… was to reduce Jesus to a magician • …to bow down… was to make Jesus a Jewish political and earthly Messiah

  5. Assignment:- • List five Temptations young people face in the world today.
