Mumbai a city of contrasts: luxurious fashion-show
40% of the population in many Indian cities are slums- yet these have a certain social fabric and cohesiveness
Traffic jams , noise ,rickshaws and interesting electrical installations
Our hosts had servants and chauffeurs. The caste system still exists
Weddings are an 8 hour affair – groom has to consent 10 times in front of two priests and parents
Our Indian hosts: vegetarian cooking- a good cook has 22 different spices and herbs
Rotary Friendship Exchange ( RFE ) • District 3140 RFE from India -- inward team to Rotary club of Eltham • Arrive on Wedn 3 October ( Healesville ) depart for NZ on 7 October 2012 • 6 Victorian Rotarian couples - part of a two week RFE to India in Feb 2012 • Mumbai Rotarians visit is a return hosting by our District • They arrive Sydney late Sept. and spend one week with Rotary Clubs in Albury , Euroa and Myrtleford before Eltham • Plan is Rotary Club of Eltham hosts receive our guests at a handover at Healesville RACV County Club on Wedn 3 October ( AM ) The Indian saying is to treat all visitors like God

We stayed in three of their homes in Mumbai
RFE organisation – next steps • Approach Rotarians from our Club to host our 7 Indian couples • 5 Eltham Rotarians have already nominated – • we are seeking another 2 host for the 4 nights (or change after 2 nights ) • form a small committee (with hosts) to plan their visit • contact with Mumbai couples – exchange of profiles • earmark Thursday 4th October Rotary meeting for a RFE evening • brief host families on food requirements /customs We would be delighted if you would be part of this exciting experience Let me know if you are interested.
