Human/Landscape Interaction Task Report back Freeman Cook Principal Research Scientist, Assoc Prof. August 2005
Activities • The activities undertaken in this task in the last 12 months • Workshops. • Exchange of information. • Documents. • Books. • Suggestions for future projects. • Where to From Here? Slide Presentation Title
Workshops • Three small workshops were held during the year • Development of a Generic Entity Framework for Human/Landscape Systems. Brisbane 28-29 January, 2005 Use the ‘Tab’ key to move the bullet further to the right • Output – template • Outcome – no agreed way to develop social algorithms • Agent modelling using active modelling approach. 12-13 February 2005. • DIAS modelling template is possible • Active modelling a is a useful method to iron out some of the logic • Uncertainty and error propagation for CLW staff February 9th 2005. Exchange of Information • Two activities during the year • Sharepoint site set up • Initially active but has waned • Scaling our Science • Two workshops were attended and outcomes are now flowing from these. Slide Presentation Title
Documents • Template for model construction • Paper to MODSIM05 on Uncertainty In Modelling Human-Landscape Interactions. Cook et al. • Report (to be completed) • Discussion paper on Urban/Rural interactions • Died on Sharepoint Slide Presentation Title
Books • Growth Fetish. Clive Hamilton (2) • Uncertainty and Surprises Surprise in Complex Systems, Questions on Working with the Unexpected. R.R. McDaniel jr. and D.J. Driebe (eds). • The Economy As an Evolving Complex System III. Current Perspectives and Future Directions. Lawrence E. Blume and Steven N. Durlauf Slide Presentation Title
Where to From Here? • Uncertainty in agent based and dynamic modelling frameworks • Proposal developed for emerging science within CLW • Post-doc to work on this applied for within CLW • Possible interaction task Slide Presentation Title
Where to From Here? • Mathematical algorithms for social interactions • Need to go beyond qualitative statements • Memes are a possibility – but not the social bio BS • A challenge for both physical and social science Slide Presentation Title
Where to From Here? • Effects of reduced energy (oil) inputs into rural landscapes • My suggestion for a CSS/SEI topic • The reduction in energy inputs could challenge the viability of rural communities Slide Presentation Title
Where to From Here? • Template for DIAS coding (Art Langston and Geoff Carlin) • Outcome from one of the workshops • A skeleton program could be produced which would allow easier and fast code generation in DIAS Slide Presentation Title
