Contents Greener Skies 2009 Overview Our Goals Benefits Evaluation and Development The Way Forward 2
Overview • Effective 22 Oct 2009, arrival routes for aircraftfrom the West and North of Hong Kong will be shortened • With new routes, air travellers will benefit from shorter flying time while airline operators will benefit from less fuel consumption • This is in line with CAD’s vision – Committed to a safe and efficient Air Transport System Greener Skies 2009 6 Oct 2009 3 3
Distribution of Hong Kong Arrivals 36.1% These flights will directly benefit from the new routes Greener Skies 2009 4
HKIA Major Air Routes in the HKFIR Greener Skies 2009 香港民航處新聞發佈會 2 Oct 2009 5
2. Our Goals Greener Skies 2009 7 To enhance air traffic operations within the HKFIR To keep in view of airspace users requirements and provide more user preferred routings where appropriate To reduce aircraft fuel burns 7
Savings in track miles per flight: From the North Approximately 210km From the West Approximately 210km 3. Tangible Benefits Greener Skies 2009 8
Estimated Benefits Average 150flights daily 8 million travellers annually 10 million km track miles annually 12,000 flight hours annually Less fuel carried on board – improved flight OPS efficiency Greener Skies 2009 9
Fast Time Simulator Over 20 tests Real Time Simulator Over 120 hours Participation of over 50 frontline ATCOs Flight Simulator Tested in 8 different modes of operations using Flight Simulator provided by CX 4. Evaluation and Development Greener Skies 2009 10
Flight Simulator Tests Flyability of new procedures tested in Cathay Pacific Airways’s Flight Simulators Greener Skies 2009 11
Facilitate early application of advanced aviation technologies (e.g. PBN) in flight procedures design and air traffic management Proactive training for CAD staff (technical, management, ATC) in preparation of next generation CNS/ATM technologies 5. The Way Forward Greener Skies 2009 12
The Way Forward Greener Skies 2009 • Judiciously implement more user preferred routings to provide better fuel economy 13
