Take pictures and make a calendar for 2017 Rainy days are great for pictures. Tell your kids you’re making a calendar for 2017 and you need 12 awesome pictures. The theme is rain. Have an indoor treasure hunt A treasure hunt can be a lively way to spend a rainy day. First figure out what your treasure is and where you’re going to hide it. Now create a set of clues for every player. Each clue leads to the next clue, and finally to the treasure. Seal the clues in envelopes marked with a clue number (i.e., 2/7, or “two of seven”); this will help the treasure hunters keep track. Whoever solves the clues first and finds the treasure is the winner!
Create your own bubble bath In a clean container, mix together ½ cup mild liquid hand or body soap, 1 tablespoon sugar or honey, and 1 egg white. Pour the entire mixture under the running water as you draw your bath. Honey is a natural humidifier that attracts and retains moisture in your skin. The egg white helps create stronger, longer-lasting bubbles, for a nice, fluffy bath. For extra-dry skin, consider adding a tablespoon of light oil, such as almond or light sesame.
Camp in the Great Indoors All kids love tents. They take instantly to the privacy and the freedom of it. It is very easy to make a tent at home. All you need is a couple of dining chairs to act as tent hooks and a really large bed sheet. Make your tent comfy with pillows and mats. Have games. Read comic books with a torch light. And top it off with a nice picnic basket to be eaten inside the tent!
The Indoor Cannes Film Fest! Call up your buddies and watch The Godfather Parts 1, 2 and 3 and top it off with some pizza! Invent a game that doesn’t need to be wired Pass the story around: This is a really fun game where one person starts the first line of the story (say, “Once upon a time there was an elephant who forgot to wear his slippers on the way to the market”) and then every next person has to take that thread forward by adding a line to it. As the story progresses, children need to learn how to increase drama and tension, and then finally resolve the plot! Another tip to make this really enriching and educational for your kids: Decide on a genre in advance―fairy tale, ghost story, etc.―and go from there.
