  2. Aims • To know and understand the main features of an anti-cyclone and depression • To know and understand the weather conditions associated with anti-cyclones and depressions

  3. Starter • Complete the crossword on everything you have studied so far on weather and climate

  4. Anti-cyclones • An anti-cyclone occurs because of changes in the air pressure. • Areas with above average pressure (high pressure) are called anti-cyclones and they usually bring good weather. • Cool air is sinking so there is few clouds – in the summer this means hot sunny weather and in the winter is brings fog and frost

  5. Depressions • Depressions bring with them clouds and rain • They develop where warm air meets cold air • The boundary where they meet is called a front • Depressions are areas of low pressure • Depressions usually from over the Atlantic Ocean and move from west to east
