NSPS IIII Standards of Performance for Stationary Compression Ignition Internal Combustion Engines - Todd Martin
Agenda • NSPS IIII • Applicability • Emission Standards • Operational Requirements • Q&A
Applicability – NSPS IIII • Stationary Compression Ignition Internal Combustion Engines (CI ICE) • Manufacturers • Owners and Operators • Engines ordered after July 11, 2005 • Engines manufactured after April 1, 2006 (except fire pump engines) • Fire pump engines manufactured after July 1, 2006 • Owners and operators of stationary CI ICE that modify or reconstruct their engines after July 11, 2005
Emission Standards • Dependent upon: • Engine type • Emergency • Non-emergency • Fire pump • Model year • Cylinder displacement (per cylinder) • Horsepower / Kilowatts • Apply for the life of the engine
NSPS IIII - Standards of Performance for Stationary Compression Ignition Internal Combustion Engines Non-Emergency Engines Manufactured after 4/1/06 or reconstructed after July 11, 2005? No Not Subject to NSPS IIII (1) Reduce NOX emissions by 90 percent or more, or limit the emissions of NOX in the stationary CI internal combustion engine exhaust to 1.6 grams per KW-hour (1.2 grams per HP-hour). (2) Reduce PM emissions by 60 percent or more, or limit the emissions of PM in the stationary CI internal combustion engine exhaust to 0.15 g/KW-hr (0.11 g/HP-hr). Yes Displacement < 30 L? Displacement < 10 liters? Model year < 2007? No Yes No Yes Yes No Emission standards in 40 CFR 94.8(a)(1) Table 1 NSPS IIII Displacement > 30 liters?
