Silent barter is trading without speaking. To barter means to trade without using money. This is how silent barter worked. Merchants would leave merchandise. Another group would bring gold, leave beside the merchandise, and leave. The merchants would come back. If the merchants are happy with the amount of gold that was left, they would take the gold. If the merchants were not satisfied with the amount of gold left then they would leave the gold and go away. The second group would come back and add to the amount of gold. This series of events would continue until an agreed amount of gold is reached.
