Joshua 13Lessons for Today The spiritual inheritance given to all faithful Christians is a place in God’s family and heaven (13:13; Acts 20:32; Rom. 8:17; Col. 3:24; 1 Pet. 1:4). The Lord provides for his spiritual priesthood (13:14,33; 14:4; 1 Pet. 2:5-10).
Joshua 14Lessons for Today God makes clear his will to all and Godly leaders are first led by God (14:1-2; Mt. 17:5; Heb. 1:1-2). The Lord is not slack concerning his promises (14:5; 2 Pet. 3:9). Men who follow the Lord together build close and firm relationships (14:6; 2 Tim. 4:9-21). Blessed is the man who obeys God at all times (14:6-12; Psa. 1:1-3).
Joshua 14Lessons for Today The only way to follow the Lord is to wholly follow the Lord (14:8-9,14; Rom. 12:11; 1 Cor. 15:58). Rest comes after labor. There remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God (14:15; Heb. 4:7-9; Rev. 14:13).
Joshua 15Lessons for Today Like Caleb, we must wholly follow the Lord even in our old age (15:13-15; Tit. 2:2-3; Philemon 9).
Joshua 16 - 17Lessons for Today Not completely separating ourselves from worldly influences will cause problems for God’s people in the future (Josh. 16:10; 17:12-13; Num. 33:55-56; Jud. 2:1-3). Don’t complain about what you receive from the Lord, but use what he gives you to the fullest (17:14-18; Phil. 2:14).
Joshua 18Lessons for Today God’s house is in the midst of God’s children (18:1; Heb. 8:2; Rev. 21:3). There is room in the kingdom for all of God’s children (18:2; Lk. 14:22; Jn. 14:1-3). God’s people need to be busy completing the work that God has given them to do (18:3; 1 Cor. 15:58).
Joshua 19Lessons for Today God’s leaders will not be forgotten (19:49-50; 2 Tim. 4:6-8). Let all things be done decently and in order (19:51; 1 Cor. 14:40). It is good for brethren to dwell together in unity (19:51; Psa. 133:1; Eph. 4:1-3).
The Sanctity of Human Life( Numbers 35:9-34 ) Five Truths Concerning the Value of Life 1. Human life is valuable because it is made in the image of God and it is not to be taken (Gen. 9:5-6; Rom. 13:9). 2. There is a difference between murder (intentional - death) and man-slaughter (unintentional – city of refuge). 3. God holds the murderer accountable by law and punishable by the death penalty (judge, jury, execution). 4. There is to be no ransom for the murderer, only death. 5. Murder pollutes the land.
“All Came to Pass”( Joshua 21:45 ) Premillennialism Is A False Theory 1. Premillennialism says that the Jews will be a great nation in the future. The great nation promise to Abraham has already been fulfilled (Gen. 12:1-3; Ex. 1:7; 12:37). 2. Premillennialism says that the Jews will possess their land in the future. The land promise to Abraham has already been fulfilled (Gen. 12:1-3; Josh. 21:43-45). 3. Premillennialism says that Jesus will reign as King on the earth in the future. The seed promise to Abraham has already been fulfilled (Gen. 12:1-3; Gal. 3:16).
Joshua 20Lessons for Today The Lord is a place of refuge (20:2; Heb. 6:18). The Lord is careful to hand down punishments that are just and fair (20:3,9). The “avenger of blood” demonstrates that God holds all life as sacred and the murderer is to be punished while the innocent is to be protected (20:5,9; Gen. 9:5; Rom. 13:4,9).
Joshua 21Lessons for Today The Lord’s priesthood today offers up spiritual sacrifices (21:1; 1 Pet. 2:5-9). The “laborer is worthy of hire” is demonstrated by the Levites being given tithes and cities to live in (21:2; Lk. 10:7; 1 Cor. 9:14; 1 Tim. 5:18). The Lord keeps his promises and gives his people all that he says he will (21:43-44; Tit. 1:2; 2 Pet. 3:4-10). The Lord never fails (21:45; 2 Tim. 2:13).
Joshua 22Lessons for Today Do not judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment (22:12-20; Jn. 7:24). It is folly and shame to give answer before hearing the truth (22:12-20; Prov. 18:13; Jn. 7:51). Zeal without knowledge is dangerous and can lead to needless problems (22:12-20; Rom. 10:2; Phil. 3:6). Avoid “evil surmising” (22:12-20; Acts 16:27; 21:20,29; 1 Cor. 13:6-7; 1 Tim. 6:4).
Joshua 22Lessons for Today Merely being labeled as a wrong-doer does not make it so (22:12-20; Mt. 11:18-19; Acts 26:24-25). It is important to be zealous for the truth and accurate with the truth (22:12-20; Jude 3). The Lord knows our hearts and the true purpose for which we do what we do (22:22; Rom. 2:16; Heb. 4:12-13).
Joshua 22Lessons for Today The Transjordan tribes did not take an “out-of-sight-out-mind” approach to religion and neither should we (22:24-25; Phil. 1:27; 2:12). It is important to pass on the pattern of the Lord’s word from generation to generation (22:28; 2 Tim. 1:13). Let us never rebel and turn away from the Lord (22:29; Heb. 12:25).
Joshua 23Lessons for Today When we are old and look back over our life let us be able to show the good things we have done for the Lord and his people (23:2,4,14; 2 Tim. 4:6-8). Let us never forget the bountiful blessings we have received from the Lord (23:3,5; Eph. 1:3). When we are old let us remind the younger generation of the importance of remaining faithful to the Lord (23:6,8-11; Tit. 2:1-8).
Joshua 23Lessons for Today It takes courage to keep all of God’s word and not deviate from it (23:6; 2 Jn. 9-11). We must cleave to the Lord and love him with all our heart (23:8,11; Mt. 22:37; Acts 11:23). One and God make a majority (23:9-10; 2 K. 6:16; 1 Jn. 4:4).
Joshua 23Lessons for Today We must come out and be separate from worldly influences around us (23:7,12-13; 2 Cor. 6:14-7:1; Rom. 12:1-2; 1 Pet. 2:11-12; 1 Jn. 2:15-17). One day we must go “the way of all the earth” – the way of death. Are you ready for your day of death and the judgment to follow (23:14; Heb. 9:27)? God keeps his word (23:14; Heb. 6:18; Tit. 1:2).
Joshua 23Lessons for Today All of God’s promises will come to pass, both the rewards and punishments (23:15; Jn. 5:29; Mt. 25:46; Rom. 11:22). The wages of sin is death (23:16; Rom. 6:23).
Joshua 24Lessons for Today We should be moved to faithful obedience to the Lord when we consider all he has done for us (24:1-13). Both sincerity and truth are needed in service to God (24:14; Jn. 4:24; 1 Cor. 5:8). Christians should put away idols (24:14,16,20; 1 Cor. 10:14; 1 Jn. 5:21). Life is full of choices. You choose your life’s destiny, so choose carefully. Choose the Lord “this day”! Do not procrastinate (24:15).
Joshua 24Lessons for Today True leaders set the right example for others and practice first what they preach (24:15). We cannot serve God and false gods at the same time and be right with God (24:19; Mt. 6:24). God will not forgive willful sin because he is holy and jealous (24:19-20; Heb. 10:30-31).
Joshua 24Lessons for Today Incline your heart to the Lord (24:23; Psa. 119:36). We all, like Joshua, should be leaders and a “servant of the Lord” (24:29; Col. 3:24). Burials are common-place. Are you ready to die and meet the Lord (24:29-33; Jn. 5:28-29; Heb. 9:27)?
