  1. P.S. By Brandon Pyle

  2. About Eric Schlosser • Schlosser’s Fast Food Nation remained on the New York Times bestseller list for over two years. • Fast Food Nation has also been translated into over twenty languages. • He works as a correspondent for The Atlantic Monthly, but his work has been featured in several other magazines/newspapers.

  3. Why the Fast Food Industry? • When proposed the question why he chose the fast food industry over other chains, Schlosser stated, “The fast-food industry is enormous – and enormously influential. The fast-food chains were the first companies to demonstrate that you could create identical retail environments and sale the same products at thousands of locations.”

  4. Order the Fish! • In an excerpt from “Order the Fish,” Schlosser slams the agribusiness for shrewd tactics. He explains the relation between the agribusiness and politicians; the number of donations from companies like McDonalds to prominent Congress officials in exchange for power is well documented.

  5. E. Coli outbreak • Furthering his claim that agribusinesses were corrupt, Schlosser recites an incident involving the meat-packing company ConAgra. ConAgra was accused of knowingly producing E. coli infected, which when tested by the U.S.D.A. did return positive for E. coli. ConAgra begrudgingly recalled 354,000 pounds of potentially contaminated beef – which was less than a single day’s production. Unbeknownst to supermarkets, they had been selling contaminated beef for several weeks – which resulted in one death and forty-nine illnesses.

  6. Schlosser’s new book. • Reefer Madness: Sex, Drugs, and Cheap Labor in the American Market tackles the problem that America faces in the underground. He details the exploitation of migrant workers, the cash-crop of Marijuana, and the ever-evolving industry of pornography which has superseded the underground and has become public.
