Bibliographic Control Bibliographic control refers to the operations by which recorded information is organized and arranged according to establishedstandards and thereby made readily identifiable and retrievable. (Chan, 1994, p. 3)
Bibliographic Standards • Allow for increased consistency within individual and among multiple catalogues through • Bibliographic utilities (e.g., Sirsi/Dynix cataloguing module) • Consortia/Networks (e.g., NEOS) • Shared access (e.g., TRAC) • Private-sector jobbers (e.g., OCLC)

Cutter’s Objects of the Catalogue • Finding. Locating known titles, authors and subjects • Gathering. – Collocating and displaying the contents of collections about specific subjects, under specific titles, and by specific authors. • Advising. Facilitating the choice of materials in specific series and with other specific bibliographic characteristics.
