  3. Stock Characters • Fool / Jester: Ironically, he is the most intelligent person in the play. He is able to tell the truth because everyone thinks he is a simpleton. • Stuffy, pompous character: Malvolio is satirized as a Puritan.

  4. Characters • Cesario/Viola • She dresses as a man to get a job.

  5. Duke Orsino • Most powerful man in Illyria • In love with Countess Olivia.

  6. Countess Olivia • In mourning for her brother • Beautiful and rich • Does not love Orsino.

  7. Malvolio • Works for Olivia • A Puritan • Feels superior to others • ambitious

  8. Feste • The fool • Knows more of what is going 0n than anyone else.

  9. Sir Toby • Uncle to Countess Olivia • A drunkard but intelligent.
